Mihael's Childhood 2"Not now, Mihael. I'm busy,"
The eight year old watched as his father walked off and to his room. He didn't even try and glance at what Mihael was trying to show him. The small boy frowned and looked down at his report card. It was the first time he had ever gotten all A's. He had run home excited to show his dad, hoping for some kind words, maybe a pat on the head.
Mihael didn't even get glance.
The child slumped and walked off to his room. He was so lonely and he wanted to make his dad happy. He wanted his dad to at least look at him. What did he have to do to gain that?
"Wow! Straight A's?" Devlin gawked when Mihael showed him his report card later that day. "You sure are smart heck- you might be smarter than me someday,"
"Yeah right," Mihael laughed and took his report card back. "You get lots a good grades too why doesn't daddy ever notice?"
Devlin, who had been lying on his bed reading a book, sat up. He frowned down at his little brother.
"Dad's busy, that's all," He
ThemThe world was changing.
It was changing faster than it had in a while.
"Donnie? Donnie?" Ruth pounded on the closed bathroom door. "Are you okay? When are you coming out? You should be in bed!"
"I'm fine! Go away!" He shouted back.
Ruth let out a long, irritated sigh. Sometimes she felt like she was the older and more responsible one- even though Donnie was two years older. She pushed stray brunette frizz back behind her ears, strands that had gotten loose from her ponytail.
"I'm not leaving!" She called back and crossed her arms. She glared at the door and willed it to open, which surprisingly seemed to work.
Donnie looked sick. He was pale, and sweating. His light brown hair was a mess and his usually vibrant green eyes looked strange.
"You're really irritating you know that?" He mumbled with a scowl.
Ruth didn't let up. Her older brother wanted to take care of himself- but Ruth knew better than to let him have his way. His brother couldn't even keep an animal alive- each pet l
Mihael's Childhood 1"Momma," The child walked into the dim lit room. His feet were bare, and stuck to the wood panels of the floor.
He hoisted himself up onto the bed and crawled over to his mother. He was fond of lying down with her and she welcomed him to do so too. It had gotten harder over the last few months. He didn't know why but daddy said momma wasn't feeling good.
"Momma " He whispered, moving some of her vibrant red hair out of her face. The little boys' hair was red too, though much darker and straighter than his mothers.
His mom stirred and opened her eyes. They were warm, like melted chocolate.
"Mihael what are you doing?" She whispered, but smiled at her child. The little boy smiled back and cuddled up to her.
"I love you, momma,"
She laughed and wrapped her arms around him. He was almost five; honestly she couldn't believe it was almost his birthday again.
"I love you too, baby," She kissed the top of his head. "I love you soo much,"
Mihael giggled and pulled the blan

Shay's lungs felt as if they were burning with every breath she took. Her hair fell in front of her eyes and stuck to her face, drenched with sweat. She didn't think about where she was running to. Her only concern was getting away from what was behind her, whatever it was.
The streets were shadowed and growing darker. The houses she passed were quiet; there wasn't any light illuminating from the windows. Curfew had already passed. No one was allowed to be outside after six p.m. it was against the rules. Everybody followed the rules.
A crack in the concrete caught Shay's shoe and she hit the ground. A metallic, warm taste grew in her mouth. Blood. It would draw more of them out. She scrambled to her feet, knees scraped and dripping. All she could hear was her own labored breathing and the hitting of her shoes against the pavement.
Suddenly, something grabbed a hold of her swe
